Did you know that you will be able to use the mouse controls in Fortnite on the Nintendo Switch 2? Here’s how to activate them!
With the Nintendo Switch 2 having Fortnite available on Day One, they announced a lot of great upgrades from the version available on the original Nintendo Switch. But, one of the big upgrades to the console itself is that the Joy-Con 2 can be used like a computer mouse.
Starting with patch 36.00 on June 7th, only two days after the launch, you’ll be able to play Fortnite with mouse controls on the new system.
Joy-Con 2 Mouse controls need to be activated in Fortnite to be able to use them.

In order to activate the mouse controls in Fortnite, it’s really simple.
- Head to the Settings within the Fortnite game itself. You can do this while in the middle of a Battle Royale match. But, I recommend doing it in the Lobby, so you aren’t rushed.
- Choose the Mouse tab at the top of the screen. You’ll see a bunch of tabs up there, but Mouse is the one for this.
- You can select Right, Left, or Both. As the naming scheme suggests, this is for either the Right Joy-Con 2, Left Joy-Con 2, or the capability to use both as mice at the same time.
The official news from Epic Games about how to do this insinuates that the Right side is the default side. When activated, the right analog stick gets disabled. Whichever Joy-Con 2 you choose will rotate your character and even enable an on-screen mouse cursor on the UI.
When you choose the right or both controllers as your preference, the ZR button will be treated as the “primary click” of a left click on a computer mouse. If you’re going with Left, it’ll be ZL instead.
If you’re a lefty and want to use the Left Joy-Con 2 instead, they recommend enabling the Swap Movement Thumbstick setting in the Mouse tab to make it easier for you to use. “This will have your character move with the right thumbstick instead of the left thumbstick,” as the Epic Games news states, “generally making things smoother for left-handed players.”
Mouse controls work in several modes starting July 7th, after you upgrade to patch 36.00. These include:
- Battle Royale
- Zero Build – Battle Royale
- Team Rumble
- Reload
- Reload – Zero Build
- Fortnite OG
- Fortnite OG Zero Build
It isn’t mentioned on Epic Games’ website, but Nintendo has also previously confirmed that normal computer mice can be plugged into the Nintendo Switch 2 as well. While there isn’t any official answer on the website, it’s assumed it’ll work like other console and PC versions of Fortnite. Results may vary, especially for the first patch.
