Honestly, with Fortnite playable on nearly any game-capable device (even Apple iPhones!) at this point, it’s almost silly that this is considered news. But, Epic Games put out an official news piece about what to expect from the battle royale on the Nintendo Switch 2.

Starting off, Fortnite will be a Day One entry for anyone picking up the Nintendo Switch 2 on release day, alongside a slew of games. So, even if you can’t afford to grab the high-priced console and some pricey games, you can still jump into some Zero Build, Rocket Racing, Fortnite Festival, or any of the modes and creator maps to get by.

But, what do you get from Fortnite on the Nintendo Switch 2?

In the article on Epic Games’ website, they list out quite a few awesome upgrades that will blow the original Switch out of the water. Here’s what they had to say:

  • 60 FPS!
  • Higher resolution (2176×1224 docked, 1600×900 undocked)
  • Greater view distances (See more things in the distance!)
  • Higher-quality textures, higher-quality shadows, and higher-quality water rendering (nice water)
  • Clothing physics enabled
  • The Replay system is here — relive your best Battle Royale matches from another perspective!
  • Capture video clips using the Capture button
  • GameChat* supported — stream your Fortnite gameplay with up to three other friends
  • For the hardcore tech folks: full “desktop” renderer, high-detail geometry, distance field ambient occlusion in docked mode, shadow casting point lights, high-quality effects
  • Mouse controls supported with Joy-Con 2 (Starting June 7)

The long and short of what it all means is that it’ll look quite a bit more stunning and run a lot better on the Switch 2 than it does on the aging version of the Nintendo system. As someone who has played a lot of Fortnite on the Switch (alongside other consoles and PC), I can say that it was one of the more frustrating versions that were available.

Some things of note are that Nintendo Switch 2 GameChat is compatible with Fortnite, and that the Replay system and Capture button are both going to be a big deal for creators.

Starting on June 7th, the mouse controls that are built into the Joy-Con 2 controllers will also be available. You can learn how to connect them here. Mouse controls will work on all of the non-ranked Battle Royale, Team Rumble, Reload, and OG modes, both normal and Zero Build.

In addition, until March 31st, 2026, the first time you log into Fortnite on your Switch 2, you will earn a free Wishing Star Emote. It’s not a lot, but it’s always nice to get something for free.
