Happy Pokémon Day! Today marks the 30th anniversary of Pokemon and that means we’ve got a ton of things to talk about! Some things are fairly major, but even those tidbits are snippets. So, it’s more of a trail of bread crumbs leading us to the bigger loaf that we can’t quite see over the hill just yet.

In the interest of keeping things neat and tidy and not wasting your fine Friday morning, let’s zoom through it quickly.

Hit Clips?! Game Music Collection

Pokemon Music Collection

If you’re a millennial, you were plagued by Hit Clips. They were tiny devices that you put a little cartridge in and it’d play one song. Well, Pokémon has decided that they needed to bring that back with Pokémon songs!

You can buy a little chip tune player that is shaped like a Game Boy and insert cartridges made to look like Game Boy Games. There are 45 songs and 45 cartridges. Each cartridge has a unique piece of art on it, made to look like a scene from one of the games.

Putting in a cartridge makes it look like a still shot in time. And, they’ve used the same technology in order to make it sound just like when you were a kid.

Pokémon GO

Pokémon Go is hitting its 10-year anniversary and I can physically feel myself turning to dust.

For the 30th anniversary, we’ll be getting a special event taking place from March 7th to March 9th that will be bringing back Pokémon from across the last 10 years.

Starting tomorrow, you can enjoy a Pokémon Go Tour: Kalos event that will run from February 28th to March 1st.

Starting Monday, March 2nd, you can use the promo code: GOTOURKALOS. This should allow you a chance to encounter the Pokémon that you choose. You have until March 8th to use it.

Pokémon Masters EX

Pokémon Masters EX Is getting a new trainer! Classic Red and Blue versions of Red will be appearing in the game with his nostalgic design. You can get Red (1996) & Pikachu starting today, February 27th, until April 13th.

Other trainers you can get are:

Florian & Ogerpon (Anniversary 2026) starting February 28th until April 9th.

Juliana & Terapagos (Anniversary 2026) starting March 2nd until April 9th.

Log in before March 31st and you’ll receive 3,000 gems for free! (Note: They can only be obtained after completing chapter 1.)

Pokémon Cafe Remix

Pokémon Cafe Remix will start putting out waves of all 9 generations of starters for you to hire in your cafe. You’ll need to complete mission bingo in order to get some of their commemorative brooches.

Starting with Kanto, Bulbasaur will be available from February 28th to March 11th and you’ll need to complete a mission to acquire it. Squirtle will be available between February 28th and March 11th and is a login gift. Charmander will be available from March 4th to March 11th and will require a mission to obtain.

Along with the starters, you can look forward to new chef outfits, new decorations, and more Pokémon!

If playing on mobile isn’t for you, you can play it on Nintendo Switch 2 systems!

Pokémon UNITE

Zapdos, Moltres, and Articuno will be available for you to get through an event. By completing it, you’ll unlock their Unite licenses. Later, you can look out for Typhlosion, Meganium, and Feraligator.

Keep an eye out for an Electrode Volleyball world tour event coming soon!

Pokémon TCG Pocket

Starting February 27th and running until June 27th, you’ll get rewards for logging in each day. By checking in daily, you’ll be able to open up to 30 booster packs in that time!

There is a special 30th anniversary playmat, binder, coin, and display board for you to collect during that same time. You’ll also be able to snag 120 Pack Hourglasses that will amount to 10 booster packs!

Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness

Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness is coming to Nintendo Switch Online + expansion pack gaming library. You’ll need an online membership to access it through the GameCube – Nintendo Classics library.

Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen

Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen are ready to download today on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. They are download exclusive, meaning they have no physical copy for Nintendo Switches, and will run $19.99 each.

These titles will be compatible with Pokémon Home in the future. But, please note that any Pokémon sent to Pokemon HOME from FireRed or LeafGreen cannot be returned to those games.

Pokémon Champions

You’ll be able to play Pokémon Champions on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 starting April 2026. Mobile version is slated for later this year. When mobile does come out, it appears that you’ll be able to crossplay against others, whether they play mobile or Switch.

The Mega Dimension DLC brings us the first look at the new Mega Garchomp Z.

You can encounter a Mega Garchomp Z through a mystery gift. By defeating it, you’ll get a Garchompite Z stone that can be used for a special hyperspace distortion.

In order to use it, however, you will need to have completed one more hyperspace adventure in Pokémon Legends: Z-A already in the Mega Dimension DLC.

Pokémon Pokopia

Pokemon Pokopia

Arguably, one of the most hyped subjects in the Pokémon Presents today was a better look at the upcoming Pokopia game.

We were treated to a look at a Rotom (Stereo Rotom) that is known as DJ Rotom. You’ll be able to change up the music that plays by giving it CDs to sift through.

In the same theme, we learn more about cooking through Chef Dente, a Greedant adorned with pots and cooking utensils that will help guide you in cooking.

Through cooking, you’ll not only be able to feed the Pokémon around the island their favorite foods, but you can give yourself a boost as well. By feeding yourself certain meals, your skills will have a wider area of effect and allow you to complete more in one move.

Not only that, but we learned a few new mechanics for gameplay!

In multiplayer mode, you can play with up to 3 other people on an island and you can bring a partner Pokémon with you. You’ll be able to play a hide-and-seek game with your friends that is heavily reminiscent of Prop Hunt. Since you play as dittos, you can change into an item in the landscape!

Likewise, it’s even clearer by these newer looks that if you’re a fan of Minecraft, you’re going to find a lot of similarities and things to love in Pokopia!

By grabbing the game before January 31st, 2027, you’ll get a Ditto rug that you can use to decorate your house with!

Pokémon Pokopia will be available to buy on March 5th!

Pokémon Winds and Waves

Pokemon Winds and Waves
Pokemon Winds and Waves

The Pokémon Presents ended with a first look at Pokémon Winds and Waves. There is speculation that this island is settled somewhere in the Southeast Asian islands. In our opinion, it might be close to the Sevii Islands from Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen.

Not only did we get to see an adorably dressed set of Pikachus named Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu, but we saw the newest starter set for Gen 10!

You can pick the grass type Bean Chick Pokemon, Browt, the fire type Puppy Pokemon, Pombon, or the water type Water Gecko Pokemon, Gecqua!

We also saw a lot of the biomes that we will get to explore in the game, including an underwater level. This leads us to believe that diving might be coming back outside of battle! Prior to this, the last time diving was available in a Pokémon game was Pokémon Black and White.

We can expect to get our hands on Pokémon Winds and Waves in 2027.

What are you excited about? What starter will you pick?! Our house is split between Browt and Gecqua.
