Most people think of Five Nights At Freddy’s as a franchise with formulaic gameplay, designed in a more “child-friendly” horror genre. Sure, there’s plenty of child murders and tons of jumpscares, but the FNAF franchise actually jumped into other genres in recent years than their overdone, tried-and-true gameplay. Five Nights At Freddy’s: Into the Pit, one of those newer titles, is not only going to be coming to Epic Games Store next week, but is also going to be free for the week of Halloween.
Five Nights At Freddy’s: Into the Pit is a great game to try out for Halloween
Five Nights At Freddy’s: Into the Pit is a great example of taking a tired story and giving it something new. Into the Pit was originally a short story in the FNAF: Fazbear Frights book series that came out in 2019. In the story, Oswald is a bored kid at a pizza joint who finds an old ball pit. When he emerges from the depths, he comes out in what appears to be 1985, around the same time as some infamous murders that happened at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, which happens to be the same building.
The story was eventually adapted into Five Nights At Freddy’s: Into the Pit, which came out for the franchise’s 10th anniversary last year, and includes tons of references and easter eggs from across all continuities. It’s great theorist fodder for those who love lore.
But, instead of the usual formula, Mega Cat Studios made the game look like it was right out of a Super Nintendo’s library, complete with pixelated graphics, puzzles, minigames, and the mysterious yellow rabbit mascot that has seemingly replaced Oswald’s dad in the present day.
As mentioned, Five Nights At Freddy’s: Into the Pit is set to be released and be free on the Epic Games Store, starting October 30th. It’ll remain free until November 6th. At the same time, the original Bendy and the Ink Machine will also be joining Epic Games Store at the same time and will also be free. That one’s a bit more action-packed, but it tells an interesting story and is generally a fan and theorist favorite as well.
