I recently reviewed the Lepro TB1 and TB2 AI Smart Table Lamps here on Comfy Cozy Gaming and gave them incredibly high marks. However, the two desk lamps aren’t the only items that Lepro sent me. They also sent me the really nice Lepro O1 AI Smart Floor Lamp, which feels like the much bigger, slicker brother to the other two.
If you read the previous review, a lot of what I’m about to say should be familiar, as the technology that Lepro is using for all three lamps is identical. But, I opted to write this review separately since the floor lamp does have some pretty noticeable differences.
Setting up the Lepro O1 AI Smart Floor Lamp
The Lepro O1 AI Smart Floor Lamp starts off in a pretty large, hefty box. At the end of the day, when you go beyond all of the additional tech involved, this is a fully functioning, full-sized, modern-looking floor lamp.
Aside from the heft, putting the lamp together was an absolute breeze. We have a not-smart lamp of similar size that we recently purchased and this lamp screws together in a similar fashion.
While you can do it by yourself, I do recommend getting an extra pair of hands to hold the components while you’re putting it all together. While it involves some manual work, all of the smaller tubes are technically one piece due to the cord that snakes through them.
From there, when you plug it in, it automatically comes in a bright white default. A little warning from someone who did not heed this advice: don’t look directly at it when you plug it in for the first time, especially if the room you’re setting it up in is darkened. I’m sure other lamps out there can be and are brighter, but this one does get a thumbs up on the “100% brightness” setting’s eye-searing glow.
Once the Lepro O1 AI Smart Floor Lamp is physically set up, you need to head over to your mobile app store of choice and grab the Lepro app. Set up an account and add the device. It should find the lamp automatically for you to add to your account.
Since the current line of Lepro AI Smart Lamps all have integrated microphones, you can leave it there and you’d be considered entirely set up.
If you utilize Google Home or Alexa smart home devices, you can tie the Lepro O1 AI Smart Floor Lamp in and it’ll work seamlessly. I’m a big advocate for smart home capabilities and the entire Lepro line surprised me in how easy they were to set up across the board as an enthusiast.
I will add an additional note that you need to share your account information with others in your home if they want to use the AI functionality properly. If not, they can accidentally remove the lamp entirely from your settings and smart home preferences.
Using the lamp
Speaking of the AI in the Lepro O1 AI Smart Floor Lamp, I really like how Lepro handles the actual AI. It’s self-contained and isn’t affected by outside AI, LLMs, algorithms, and internet usage.
But, what is the AI for? The Lepro AI LightGPM 3.0 is a language learning model that was taught about things like color psychology and lighting design knowledge. It understands color theory pretty well and focuses on making your house as colorful as possible to match any mood you may be in.
Even though the lamp starts off as white, you have a lot of color and animation options. If you tell it you feel “Happy”, it’ll give you a detailed list of options to make the lighting, with plenty of happy, bright colors. The same goes for “sad”, as well as other, more complex emotions.
We tested all of the lamps that we got with a ton of weird words and criteria. It was able to figure out a lot of them and give good recommendations for the settings.
I’d say things started getting a bit dicey when we went more specific with our AI requests. It doesn’t quite get “I’m feeling very Sailor Moon”, for instance. This is likely due to the self-contained nature of the AI.
Since this is a gaming website, the next question is to ask if the Lepro O1 AI Smart Floor Lamp can give us some beautiful gamer RGB lights. The simple answer is, in fact, yes. With the AI and manual functionalities, it can even go above and beyond to put them in different patterns, color options, and speeds. This also applies to the smaller desk lamps that I mentioned earlier.
Final Verdict
While the Lepro O1 AI Smart Floor Lamp is fantastic, it’s a bit pricey. As mentioned, when you boil it down, it’s still just a floor lamp with some extra functionality. At $160 full price, there are definitely other lamps out there that can do most of the same things for less money. Luckily, the Lepro O1 does go on sale often and is often seen well under $100 when it does.
It really does boil down to the AI functionality. The ability to talk to the app and be offered customized choices for your ask is really a cool feature, albeit a tad gimmicky to the average person. As a smart home fan, and to quote Marge Simpson, “I just think they’re neat.”
