It’s been well over two and a half years since Animal Crossing: New Horizons fans were treated to any update at all for the aging game. With the Nintendo Switch 2 coming out just a week from now, that drought has officially ended. Unfortunately, I wish we had more to report on.
Earlier this week, Update 2.0.7 went live for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which only made one little change. According to the official patch notes on Nintendo’s website, this tiny update “improved the compatibility for multiplayer sessions between Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch.”
All that means is that they are trying to make sure that players who are using the multiplayer aspects, such as visiting other players’ islands, work as good as possible between the older Nintendo Switch hardware and the new Nintendo Switch 2. And yes, that does mean this update is live for both consoles.
Here is the quick way to update your Animal Crossing: New Horizons to Update 2.0.7.
- Make sure you’re connected to the internet on the Nintendo Switch or Switch 2 that you want to do the update for.
- On the HOME menu, hover over the Animal Crossing: New Horizons icon. If you have a digital version of the game and have not played in a while, you may need to find it in the installed games folder.
- Press the + (plus) or – (minus) button on your controller to open up a menu screen about the game.
- Go to Software Update and click on “Via the Internet”. Let it do its thing for updating.
- If you’re connected to the internet and accidentally click on Animal Crossing: New Horizons to play it, it may actually prompt you to do the update first and allow you to do it all from the HOME menu.

Considering that Animal Crossing: New Horizons is getting a Day 1 Animal Crossing: New Horizons Switch 2 version, this is going to make everything run much better for those who haven’t gotten their hands on the new console just yet.
As mentioned, the 2.0.7 update is the first update since November 14th, 2022. So, we’re crossing our fingers for more ACNH in the near future. If you’re a fan of Animal Crossing and have not yet played the mobile game, check out my review on Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Complete here.
