Nintendo Music recently got both the Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Animal Crossing: New Leaf soundtracks added to the app. But, while you can listen to whatever tunes you want from K.K. Slider’s catalog of bangers in both instrumental and performance versions at your leisure, an important feature was added for those looking to just relax with some amazingly chill background music, 24 hours a day: Hourly-Track Compatible playlists.

If you’re unfamiliar, Animal Crossing games have different background soundtracks depending on when you’re playing during the day and what the weather is like. You’re going to hear a different tune at 7:00 PM than you would at 8:00 PM or any other hour of the day.

If you want to enjoy that same mellow, cozy soundtrack at any given time of the day without booting up Animal Crossing: New Horizons on your Nintendo Switch or Switch 2 or Animal Crossing: New Leaf without digging out your old Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo Music has you covered.

  1. Be subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online. The type of subscription doesn’t matter. Even the 7-day free trial works.
  2. Download Nintendo Music from your app store of choice on Android or iOS.
  3. Log in to your My Nintendo account that has the Nintendo Switch Online subscription within the Nintendo Music app and choose your profile.
  4. On the main Home screen, you’re going to find a section as you scroll down called “Hourly-Track Compatible”, which you can click on or choose from the list there.
  5. Choose from one of six options, three each from New Horizons and New Leaf: “A Sunny Day”, “A Rainy Day”, or “A Snowy Day” (times two, obviously).
  6. Click on “Play hourly tracks”. Or, if you want to be a rebel, you can choose specific tracks in the short, non-looped version of each.
  7. Choosing “Play hourly tracks” is going to set you up, based on what time it currently is, and prorate the time of the hour-long version of the track that coincides with your phone’s clock. At the top of the hour, you’re going to start the next track designated for that hour.

Enjoy the relaxing tunes of Kazumi Totaka around the clock!

Now, you may be wondering if the Android version of Nintendo Music can Chromecast to your TV or Chromecast-compatible device to listen to your Animal Crossing (or Super Mario or Kirby or whatever) tracks. The answer is “sort of”. Nintendo Music does not natively have the option to do this. But, alas! There is still hope for Android users!

  1. Start your Nintendo Music app and get your music going, whatever it may be.
  2. On your Android device, pull down your notifications screen to show your quick menu choices.
  3. Choose “Cast” and pick the device you’d like to Cast to, such as your TV.
  4. On the “Cast your screen” pop-up, choose “Cast one app”.
  5. It should pop up the Nintendo Music app as a choice. Choose it.
  6. Turn your volume up on your phone and jam out to your music without the need to keep your app open directly.
  7. If you’re on an iPhone or iPad, you’ll need to use AirPlay instead. The instructions are at this link.
