Tall Trails is a new exploration game that will be dropping August 4th by a solo dev. I can’t overstate how excited I am to dive into this game. If I had to describe my gaming preferences in two themes, it’d be ‘exploration’ and ‘silly little guy behavior’.

Both of these are being brought to us in Tall Trails. You step into the shoes of Alp, a little golem with the big goal of finding his purpose in life. In order to achieve your dreams, you’ll explore the world by running around, climbing surfaces, and taking to the skies in your Rocket Boot.

As you explore the world, you’ll come into contact with items that will help you navigate the landscape around you. These items range from the vastly cool Rocket Boot to a humble mushroom.

As mentioned, your Rocket Boot will help you soar through the skies and is powered by items you find. You’ll also find whirligigs that will allow you to hover, webs from spiders to play out your own Spider-Man fantasy, and even hot peppers that act as jet packs!

There are five unique biomes for you to explore as you traverse mountains, help out at camp, and search for treasure.

Along with items and treasures, you may just find badges that you can use and upgrade to increase your platforming abilities. And, most excitedly, you can find hats! Don’t ever underestimate the cool factor of a good hat.

Once you’ve played through the main story, Tall Trails keeps on giving. You can turn around and restart the game in a new world ready to explore, thanks to random generation.

Tall Trails boasts full controller support, input remapping, and the ability to scale the difficulty. Personally, I’m incredibly excited to hop into this one. When it drops on August 4th, you can expect a $12 price tag with 4-5 hours of main story gameplay and innumerable hours of gameplay through randomly generated worlds after that.

If you want to keep it on your radar for when it is released, then head over to Steam and wishlist it. Doing so will help out the solo developer as well!
