Quick Verdict: Hello Kitty and Friends: Freeze Tag Party is cute for those who enjoy Sanrio in any form, but the price tag is just too steep for what’s on offer.

Cozy Score: 8

Pros: There are a ton of Sanrio characters to play with, and it’s a simple design for kids to grasp.

The cozy score merely reflects how relaxing a game is and does not impact the review score.

Hello Kitty and Friends: Freeze Tag Party is a smaller game where you play tag as either the hider or the seeker. Generally, you’ll play against the program, but if you have someone to play with, they can join your game.

Hello Kitty and Friends: Freeze Tag Party is very simple. You either play as the challenger or the hunter. The challengers are a team of several characters, whereas the hunters are a team of two. If you’re one of the hunters, then you’re busy running after characters to freeze in place. As a challenger, you’re doing your best not to get caught, but you’re also running around freeing up members of your team who have been.

The game ends when all of the challengers are down or the timer runs out. Once the match ends, you’ll be given some jewels, which can be used to buy characters and costumes or shards, which will accumulate over time to upgrade your character. You will only get shards of the character you play, so you’ll want to pick strategically.

Additionally, each character has a unique set of skills, so picking the character that best suits your playstyle will be more than just about aesthetics. By earning shards, you’ll be able to level up for even greater effect on your skills.

Unfortunately, you can only earn currency by playing against the machine. If you play couch co-op or locally, you won’t earn any rewards, which is kind of a bummer.

While playing matches, you can work on missions that will net you trophies. There are five stages of difficulty to work from. Otherwise, there’s really not much more to Hello Kitty and Friends: Freeze Tag Party. It’s just a cute little Sanrio game. You can change things up by choosing different locations, but the mechanics are still the same.

I think this is probably perfect for kids, but as an adult playing, there’s just not enough content. And, even if you are buying it for a kid, I just don’t see the value in spending $40. You’re paying for the branding and that’s about it.

This review is micro-sized because there’s just not that much substance to Hello Kitty and Friends: Freeze Tag Party. While I don’t see the value, there wasn’t anything wrong with how the game played.

If it’s worth it to you to spend that, then you can get it over on Nintendo Switch for $39.99. Otherwise, you can check out some of our other reviews, like Little Corners or Snoopy & The Great Mystery Club.
