The Nintendo Direct from September 12th, 2025, brought us a ton of news about a lot of new games coming to the Nintendo platform. There was a bit of Mario-related news, a ton of new games, and even some cozy games to get excited for!
Let’s-a go! Mario time!

Let’s run through the Mario stuff for the 40th anniversary really quickly because it’s a fairly simple rundown. We now know that The Super Mario Galaxy movie will be dropping in April 2026, Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 will be added to Nintendo Switch 2, and that we’ll get two new amiibos: Mario and Rosalina. Additionally, if you want to get your hands on Rosalina’s storybook, a physical copy will be available to buy from the Nintendo store.
Mario Tennis Fever is coming back with fever rackets and an adventure mode featuring baby versions of the characters on February 12th. Super Mario Bros. Wonder is getting a Switch 2 Edition in Spring 2026 that has Bellabel Park, where you can team up or work against your friends.
Lastly, and in my opinion, most importantly, a new Yoshi game is dropping that boasts a cozy experience. Yoshi and the Mysterious Book is coming in Spring 2026, and you’ll discover the inner world of a book that seems to have a really chill vibe that encourages discovery and cuteness.
Did someone say humanoid Ditto?

As for other cozy games, we’ve got Dinkum that I am loath to say is cozy for one simple reason: sharks. Dinkum is a survival sim that lets you plant, fish, gather, and more. There are festivals and a co-op mode, but there are also sharks. Did I mention that yet? There’s a demo out today if you want to try it out… with sharks.
Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream got featured, but I’ll be honest, it didn’t give us more info other than to confirm it’s coming in Spring 2026.
While not very cozy, I feel like it’s really cool and wanted to mention that the Virtual Boy library will be coming to Nintendo Switch 2, complete with an actual Virtual Boy-shaped stand. You’ll get the authentic experience by sliding your Nintendo Switch 2 console into the slot. No worries if you don’t have the money or space for a setup, because there is a cardboard version as well!
Some games getting the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition treatment are Overcooked 2 coming this holiday season, Stardew Valley this Fall, Human Fall Flat next Spring, Powerwash Simulator 2 in Fall, and Suika Game Planet this Winter.
Donkey Kong Bonanza got a DLC announcement that will bring more content your way, and it’s available today!
Lastly, Pokémon just got a cozy upgrade with Pokémon Pokopia set to come out in 2026. I can’t gush about this little gem enough, but I’ll let the article we’ve written about it speak more on that.
What are you excited about from this Nintendo Direct? Personally, I’m excited for Pokémon Pokopia and Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. I’m tentatively excited for Tomodachi Life, but I’m waiting for any concrete information on it before getting my hopes up.
