Crossovers in games happen all the time, and, more often than not, they’re generally welcome and just a fun surprise. While you may be used to seeing easter eggs in AAA games, indie games get more creative. The productivity game Spirit City: Lofi Sessions just finally got its first crossover and, well, we need to call an EMERGENCY MEETING!
Earlier this week, the beanie Crewmates from smash hit Among Us invaded Spirit City: Lofi Sessions in a new, free update and it’s such a cute little addition to the Spirit roster. Once unlocked, the Crewmate comes in various classic Among Us colors and works as a companion in lieu of one of the many Spirits already established within the game.
How to unlock the Among Us Crewmate in Spirit City: Lofi Sessions
As with all unlockable “Spirits” in Spirit City: Lofi Sessions, the Crewmate will start off as a silhouette in the Spiritdex. If you’re new to the game, the Spiritdex gives you a written clue on how to unlock the specific Spirit and explains the lore and backstory of that particular Spirit once unlocked.
For the Crewmate to be obtained, you’re given the clue “In the vast emptiness of space, a game of intrigue is played.”
This is easily one of the simplest clues given for any Spirit. Just have your avatar play a video game. In my case, I went to the desk and had my avatar play a video game on the computer.
Once you set your avatar to play a video game, you’ll see a little notification swirl around your Spiritdex. This lets you know you’re actively luring the Spirit. You’ll need to give it time to lure the Crewmate, so let it sit for a while. I think mine took around 20 minutes. Once it changes color, the Crewmate is ready to be obtained. Click the changed icon.
You’ll get a little animation of the Among Us Crewmate coming out of a vent. If you’re unfamiliar with Among Us, that means your spirit is “sus”. Nonetheless, you now have the Crewmate.
Once you get the Among Us Crewmate, what can you do?
You automatically get the classic red Crewmate without a hat. It’s so iconic and has been heavily memed for years that it needs no introduction at this point. But, there are color and hat options for you to customize a bit more.
As with other Spirits, you can head to the Wardrobe icon on the left side of your screen and click on the Spirit Companion tab. It displays all of your unlocked Spirits to choose from that hang out with your avatar in the game. By clicking the now-unlocked Crewmate, you equip it. Choose the “Color” icon underneath Spirit Type to be able to change your Crewmate to be one of nine different colors and hats.
- Red (No hat, but definitely sus)
- Blue (Plant hat)
- Green (Brain slug hat)
- Orange (Party hat)
- Pink (Fried egg hat)
- Black (Crown hat)
- Light blue (Top hat)
- White (Angel halo)
- Purple (Mini purple crewmate as a hat)
Each of these Spirit Companion skins (aside from the initial Red version) costs you 250 Spirit Credits, which are earned by spending time in Spirit City: Lofi Sessions and doing productivity tasks. If you want them all, it’ll cost 2000 Spirit Credits total.
In addition to the Crewmate, the collaboration doesn’t end there. They added a Mini Crewmate Hat for your avatar, customizable in any color you want. If you want to decorate your room or kitchen with Among Us items, you can also unlock the Emergency Meeting Button and Crewmate Plushie as decor.
Finally, Spirit City: Lofi Sessions also added a new background that you can use for the outside called Outer Space. It’s just stars most of the time. But, once in a while, you will see an ejected Crewmate floating by the window. It’s silly and such a great nod to the legendary game.
The update also included a ton of small bug fixes, as well as some new Room Decor Items for the Fireplace. You’ll also find that the developers announced an incoming summer update for July 10th that will come with a new Spirit to discover, a bunch of new items, a beach background, and tons of new customizables.
You can pick up Spirit City: Lofi Sessions for $11.99 when it isn’t on sale over on Steam. But, it goes on sale often on top of it. Also, this Among Us collab is part of the free updates that automatically happen.
