Set in a unique world inspired by British folklore, Mandrake sees you as the last in a distinguished line of sorcerers with horticultural powers. You’ll be returning to a complicated, cursed town where the only thing predictable about farming is its unpredictability. Your crops can turn blue and get struck by lightning!
Still, amidst this chaos, you’ve offered your expertise in the dark— err, green— arts to help boost the town’s harvest. Your family has an old, empty lodge you can stay in, and you’ll be living your best life trying to coax plants to grow and getting to know the townsfolk.
It won’t be easy— the curse has been terrorizing the town for 100 years, and since you’ve been gone, the town has become steeped in secrets they’re not eager to share with you. Feel free to loosen their lips with gifts, though!
You’ll be farming, foraging, mining, exploring, and decorating by day. By night… well, it’s strongly suggested mere mortals don’t go out at night.
The night is for other creatures. But we all know you’re going to go out at night as soon as you can.

The most interesting thing about Mandrake is the way magic works. You’re not hurling potions at enemies or using scrying crystals to find the best foraging spots. Instead, you can nurture a cherry tree from seedling to maturity in a week, understand the dead, and share tea with the deity chilling in your chimney.
Plus, there’s The Yolf, a massively fluffy creature that looks like it belongs in a Studio Ghibli film, but seems to thrive on gold pieces instead of the strength of my love for it. You’ll have to be mindful of The Yolf, as your ancestors owe him money that he has come to collect from you.
While no date or price has been announced for Mandrake, you can wishlist it on Steam right now! While you’re here, you should check out our full coverage for the Wholesome Snack!
