Bad Heroes will be coming to a street fight near you in October 2027, so you’ve got a bit of waiting ahead of you before you can find love in the gritty Gloom City.

Join the ranks of misfit heroes as you vie for hearts while keeping the streets clean one crime wave at a time. Not only will you have to trust your superhero team to have your back, but you’ll have to learn to trust them with your heart as well. You’ll have six romanceable characters to choose from that range a wide offering of styles and personalities.

Will you choose your boss, Whacktivist, who is an expert in weapons, puns, and possibly your heart? Perhaps you’ll be interested in Mermangler, a muscle mommy from the depths of the sea. Maybe Blurricane will be more your speed-ster, with her big ambitions, type-A personality, and fast legs.

If you’re looking to slow things down, Zombi may be your perfect match as they come to grips with newfound agency. Don’t worry, gold diggers, Draculaud is here to serve looks and comes with a vampire fortune. And, lastly, you may be looking for a more flexible relationship, in which Tweetie Tights, the ninja gymnast, will pull your focus.

Bad Heroes is designed with interplay in mind, meaning that half of the game comes in the form of a visual novel, while the other half is the promised beat’em up.

In the visual novel portion, you’ll get more background about your partners and will be able to have choice-based conversations with branching paths and a love meter. In these segments, you’ll get more of an office drama setting and an overarching story. In the beat’em up portion, you’ll earn romance meter points and get more information about the crime wave you’re battling.

There’s a ton of replayability in Bad Heroes if you’re interested in romancing them all. You’re free to talk to them without the others getting jealous, so the sky is the limit for you. Just be aware that there are good and bad endings for each character, so you’ll want to choose your actions carefully.

If you get lonely in the beat’em up portions, never fear! You can play with friends in couch co-op. This feature isn’t available in the demo, so I’m unsure how it plays, but I imagine it’s the standard way most do. Nevertheless, I’m overjoyed that this little detail was thought of and catered to. It puts even more charm into an interesting game.

Personally, Bad Heroes isn’t my game type that I like to sit in, and that’s a major bummer for me. It looks amazing, and I love the idea and the team behind it. Pounce Pounce Studios is predominantly a two-person team with help from friends and collaborators who have gone on record to disavow AI and who stand with the LGBTQ+ community.

It’s lovely to see a team that is thoughtful and kind. I have no doubt that when Bad Heroes releases, it’ll be a huge success. To keep you sated in the interim, you can head over to the Bad Heroes Steam page and try out the demo. While you’re there, go ahead and wishlist the game, as that really helps out the team.
