Cat Isle takes heavy inspiration from Japanese culture, more specifically, the notorious Cat Islands. In a move straight out of riding the train in Spirited Away, you’re set upon the task of expanding a train platform in the middle of the sea into a thriving catopia for all feline kind!

You’ll be tasked with catering to the needs of your population by placing down buildings that enrich their lives. Cat Isle has cats who may prefer to sunbathe in their spare time, while others are on the hunt for fresh sashimi. It’ll be up to you to figure out what your feline patrons want and supply it for them.

There will be four levels filled with adorable pixelated buildings that you can further adorn with decorations, plants, and signs. You’ll have the ability to indulge your own stylistic needs while serving your cat-stomers. You can expect to enjoy about 2-4 hours of content where you can speedrun the tasks, or you can take the lax approach and slow things down by watching your cats play, relax, and fish!

Cat Isle reminds me a lot of Minami Lane, right down to the size of the game. It was also on the smaller side, where you catered to your specific customers and had to manage placing the right configuration of buildings in order to meet your goals. I loved playing Minami Lane, so I have high expectations for Cat Isle.

Personally, I love the little details that you can see in the screenshots and trailer of this game. It’s clear that a lot of love and care went into the design. I’m thoroughly amused by the tiny little “Meowson” conbini reminiscent of the popular franchise Lawson, and I hope there are other little easter eggs hidden amongst the finer details.

The only thing that I’d say might be a con is that it seems like there are only black cats that patronize your little village, and I wish there were other fur colors as well. Maybe there are, since the logo shows two other colors, but all the promotional images are just showing a single coat color right now.

Either way, I’m sure Cat Isle is going to be an exceptionally cozy and fun game when it releases. While you wait, head over to Steam to check out more about it and add it to your wishlist while you’re there, as it really helps developers out.
