After some leaks that dropped the other day of this exact trailer in Italian, Pokémon TCG Pocket finally confirmed that Wisdom of Sea and Sky is the next set, dedicated to the Johto region, and it’s coming on July 30th.
As with other mainline set packs, you’re split between two imposing figures as the Wisdom of Sea and Sky pack art dons the legendary beast trio master, Ho-oh, and the guardian of the sea, Lugia. Not only are they the pack art covers, but the birds will be some powerful, teched-out ex cards in the set as well. In fact, they work incredibly well together, unlike their video game counterparts.
But, remember, this set is focusing on everything Generation 2, not just the birds. Confirmed by the trailer, the three Johto starter Pokémon are in the set, meaning their entire evolutionary lines will likely be joining them.
Wisdom of Sea and Sky will scratch your Gen 2 itch
The trailer proceeds to show off an adorable sleepy 1-star full art Pichu card before zooming off to show Cleffa. This confirms that “baby” Pokémon will be a part of the game, as they were in the physical version 25 years ago. But, there’s not yet any word on if they properly evolve like the long-forgotten baby mechanic, or if they’re just meant to be support Pokémon cards.
After the babies are shown off in the trailer, Pokémon TCG Pocket then confirms that shinies are back. And, let me tell you as someone who originally played Gold and Silver when it was new, this one is an important card. Shiny Red Gyarados makes its first splash into the game and it’s an absolute need as a card in my collection. Red Gyarados, for those unaware, was most players’ first-ever Shiny Pokémon back in the day. It holds a special place in our hearts.
Continuing from the most recent set, Eevee Grove, we’re getting Umbreon ex and Espeon ex joining the roster of card options in Wisdom of Sea and Sky. I really hope we get a shiny blue Umbreon as well, but that remains to be seen.
In the next segment, the trailer shows off supporter cards for Lyra and Silver, as well as Pokémon Scarf and Elemental Switch. Lyra being the focus confirms this is based on the Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver era, as opposed to the original Pokémon Gold and Silver, as Lyra was created for that generation. Hopefully, we’ll see Krystal as well at some point.
While the trailer doesn’t have it, there’s also an easy-to-miss but adorable Togepi 1-star full art that Pokémon was showing on their official website post. The post also boasts that this set will have over 200 new cards to collect, making it a nice, bulky mainline set.
Get your pack hourglasses and gold ready. Wisdom of Sea and Sky is dropping on Wednesday, July 30th, during your local day change. If you’re EST, for instance, this change happens currently at 2 AM. So, if you’re in the PDT timezone, you’ll technically get it July 29th.
Pokémon TCG Pocket also recently detailed exactly how the new trading functionality will work, which launches at the same time as Wisdom of Sea and Sky. I broke down what that entails, how it’ll work, and freebies for those who are holding onto a lot of Trade Tokens. There’s also still the Eevee Summer code going to get 24 free pack hourglasses, which is easy to do.
Pokémon TCG Pocket is free to play on mobile devices.
