Whispering Stacks is a rogue-lite zap-em-up where you play as a spherical wizard studying in an endless magical library. You just want to expand your magical knowledge, but mystical denizens have other plans and will work to stop you.
You’ll have to zap your way through a randomly generated, side-scrolling library to defeat enemies. They’ll do what they can to keep you from arcane knowledge and portals that lead to more sections of the library, as well as mini-bosses and potential friends.
Along the way, you’ll be able to collect outfits and mysterious artifacts, wear said outfits, befriend virtual companions, and design your own cozy reading nook.

Your little reading haven isn’t just for relaxing after a long, hard day battling for knowledge, you’ll be able to invite your friend to stay there too.
Within your nook, you’ll be able to place and customize furniture, read Tarot from the cards you collect (mysterious artifacts), change your outfit, and pet the dog. I think we can all agree that the fact that you can pet a dog in Whispering Stacks makes it a 10 out of 10 cool game.
We should expect to see Whispering Stacks sometime during the Summer of 2025, and we’ll be able to try out the demo sometime in May.
Personally, I think this little game has so much retro charm. The graphics and shading on it remind me strongly of early 2000s games, and I’m excited to see how it progresses.
If you’re a sucker for nostalgia or just want to keep tabs on it, follow Whispering Stacks over on Steam. Not only will it keep the game on your radar, but it will help out the developer as well.
