Little Mage was recently announced during the Future Games Show Gamescom Latam live showcase, and it brings with it a lot to love. You play as an Æther Mage, and you’re the first to wake up in a world decimated by something called “The Fall”, a catastrophic event that sixteen ancient mages wrought.
They now lie in a tomb in Hornedrose, a city where you’ll make your way through the city’s crumbling landscape, fighting powerful enemies, and unraveling secrets that may save or further destroy the ravaged world.
Little Mage is an action platformer filled with deep narrative and lore, platforming challenges, fearsome bosses, leveling, elemental abilities, and gorgeous, hand-drawn art.

Violoken, the solo developer working on Little Mage, has many strengths, but the ability to craft gorgeous, handcrafted architecture is by far the most awe-inspiring. Coming from an architect and art director background, you can see the influence of their expertise in the stunning set design.
Little Mage is a 2D Metroidvania that takes inspiration from such games as Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Diablo II, Final Fantasy, and Hollow Knight. If you’ve enjoyed any of those games, you’ll likely find something to love in this one.
While I can’t say that there appears to be much in the way of cozy gaming with this game, I fully believe that this is someone’s happy place. Whether this is your comfort genre or you enjoy a good challenge, Little Mage should be on your radar.
Not only will you be able to get lost in a richly beautiful world, but you’ll have the satisfaction of conquering a challenging game. It’s not just boss battles and platforming; you’ll have the chance to play with different magic types, rock powerful gear, and play a little card mini-game that offers loot.
As if that wasn’t enough to get you excited, Little Mage has replayability so that you can keep enjoying the game long after you’ve finished it. There are secrets and pathways to discover that may not be possible to accomplish in one playthrough.
If you want to keep Little Mage on your radar, head over to their Steam page and wishlist the game. Not only will you be able to get updates, but wishlisting the game will help Violoken out.
