If you’re like me, you crave more cozy, book-based games. You may have even grown up wanting to be a librarian and it had nothing to do with Evie from The Mummy. Then again, Evie certainly didn’t help, did she? I know what you must be wondering, what is a place like me doing in a girl like this? Thank you so much for asking, but please hold all questions until the end of the list.
The fact of the matter is, I’m not a librarian. You gotta go to school for that shit and I — very wisely — did not do that. I traded no school debt for… well, this, I guess. Hello. Thanks for reading.
So, what’s the most cost-effective way to feel like a librarian? That’s right: games. Here are three games centered around books in one way or another that might get you just a bit closer to your Evie librarian dreams.
Book-based Games

Tiny Bookshop
Is Tiny Bookshop out yet? No. However, I’ve played the demo and I’ve coveted this tiny shop on wheels for about a year. It’s a charming premise about managing a second-hand bookshop that you run out of the back of a trailer. You drive it around to different areas, selling books you buy from newspaper listings, and getting to know the locals. It’s super cute and the full release will be coming sometime this year. – Our Demo Review
Book Bound
While the recommendation above puts your store on wheels, Book Bound puts down roots in a storefront gifted to you by a magical, talking book. There is a massive catalog of books across five different genres to sell and your goal is to sell at least one of every book available. While you do that, you can decorate your shop however you like and even write a book of your own to sell. – Our Review

Beacon Pines
Okay, I know, this isn’t technically managing books, but it turns out there are not a lot of bookstore/library-type games. Beacon Pines puts you on the flip side of book management where you are the writer. You go on an adventure inside of a book à la Winnie the Pooh and change the story to your liking by switching out words. There are different story paths and you control how they branch with your choices.
By the way, a place like me is trying to leave a girl like this. It was a mistake to come here — it’s messy and unmedicated. If bookish games aren’t your speed, then maybe Bullet Heaven games are — check out the list we did for those!
Anyway, what book-based games make you feel like you’re living out your librarian dreams? Let me know in the comments.
